Being graphics experts, we at Team Fitz Graphics certainly appreciate a well-designed mascot. Over the years, we have seen some great mascots, and we have seen some mascots that leave a little to be desired.
We decided to pay homage to these great mascots (and their clever designs) by putting together our own list of the very best in college and professional sports. These are listed in no particular order, but we felt that they all deserved recognition! Enjoy!
Washington Nationals – The Presidents
When something is clever and funny, it is a winner! The Presidents of the Washington Nationals’ baseball team are fan favorites for many reasons.
San Diego Padres – The Chicken
Few sports mascots have the notoriety that the San Diego Chicken has. He started out as the mascot for the baseball Padres, but he has grown from there.
Los Angeles Angels – Rally Monkey
The Rally Monkey is one of the most famous mascots in baseball, and he works for peanuts.
Syracuse University – The Orange
Syracuse University’s mascot is a big orange with a big smile. It is simple, but extremely effective.
Wichita State – The Shocker
Wichita State’s college basketball program has grown in popularity and so has the school’s wacky mascot, the Shocker.
University of Toledo – Rocky the Rocket
A spaceman and his rocket; there is no better way to represent the University of Toledo.
Anaheim Ducks – Wild Wing
The Anaheim Ducks may have shed the Walt Disney name, but the team still holds onto its Walt Disney-inspired mascot, Wild Wing.
University of Oregon – The Duck
The Duck of Oregon sure looks like a Walt Disney lawsuit waiting to happen. But, so far, the Disney folks have let the Donald Duck look-a-like rule the Oregon sidelines.
Cincinnati Reds – Mr. RedLegs
The Cincinnati Reds are one MLB team that has no problem showing its age, as exemplified by the old-fashioned Mr. RedLegs.
Phoenix Suns – Gorilla
What the Gorilla has to do with Phoenix Suns basketball is still a mystery. Nevertheless, as far as the fans are concerned, it works.
Western Kentucky University – Big Red
Big Red is a mascot that is extremely difficult to define, but almost impossible to miss.
Stanford University – The Tree
Stanford calls its sports teams “The Cardinal” after the color. The tree is just a heavily decorated mascot that is seen at every sporting event.
Xavier University – The Blue Blob
Xavier actually has two official mascots. One is a regal-looking musketeer. The popular one is the Blue Blob, which shows Xavier’s fun side.
Pittsburgh Penguins – Iceburgh
Iceburgh is a caricature of the Penguin in Pittsburgh’s logo, and he is extremely popular with the fans.
University of Colorado – Raphie the Buffalo
Ralphie is a real buffalo that has been one of the most popular mascots in college sports for years.
Florida State University – The Seminole
It is quite a site to see the Seminole, in full costume, burst onto the sidelines each time the football team scores.
University of Georgia – Uga the Bulldog
In Georgia, Uga the Bulldog is definitely the school’s best friend.
Chicago Bulls – Benny the Bull
Benny the Bull is full of energy and keeps the home crowd entertained at every Bulls’ game.
Philadelphia Phillies – The Philly Fanatic
Aside from the San Diego Chicken, no MLB mascot is more popular than the bizarre Philly Fanatic.
Minnesota Twins – T.C. Bear
Professional sports mascots are usually designed for the kids, and T.C. Bear is a huge hit with the young Minnesota baseball fans.
When a sports team can create a memorable mascot, it helps to give the fans something more to cheer about. We salute the very best mascots in the business and hope that you enjoyed our fitting tribute.
