Studies show that school spirit goes hand in hand with students’ athletic involvement, academic performance and overall general happiness. It is a hugely important part of the “high school experience” both for the athletes on the field and for their peers cheering from the sidelines. - Consistency: Just like a good tradition, a major key to establishing solid school spirit is consistency. There’s nothing like looking out across a crowd in your gym and seeing an unbroken sea of your school colors. Protect the quality of your colors, logo and school identity by making sure they’re used correctly from year to year and across programs.
- Community: Foster a spirited school community by bringing together students, athletes and educators outside of the classroom. Give teachers free admission to athletic events. Host a teacher night for different sports and designate a teacher section in the stands.
- Clubs & Crowds: Maybe your football games turn out an impressive crowd, but what about other sports and activities? Sponsor a student club whose members volunteer to go to different events, and make it a goal to have a student section present at every school competition – from marching band competitions to academic tournaments.
