Record boards can be used as motivation as well as inspiration in team sports.  Motivated swimmers will want to replace the current name on the board or beat a personal record. When picking out record boards for a swim team, there are a few factors to consider in finding one that is right for the school and the team.

1.  Find a board that is easy to read from a distance. When attendees of swim meets view the boards, the letters and numbers should be clearly visible with bright bold colors, and the board needs to be installed in a highly visible location. Parents and community members want to know how the team is doing especially if records are being broken.

2.  Boost school spirit with a board that uses the school colors and mascot. A sign that can show school colors provides a great setting for honoring students for accomplishments in swim meets.

3.  Find a board that uses a multiple layout system. A board should be able to display both individual records and team records.

4.  A board should be easy to change and maintain. Showing off the swimmers accomplishments is the main goal for boards. However, the board should be one that can be easily maintained by school personnel.

5.  Find a board that is durable for use around the pool. Pool areas can create very humid conditions. A high-quality board can withstand the conditions that a large pool can create. This may require more money in the beginning, but the initial investment will be worth replacing boards on a regular basis.
