Sun Prairie High School Honors Long History of Track & Field State Champions

Posted by  Shaun Fitzgibbons on 04/17/2018

Sun Prairie High School celebrates a rich history in the sport of track & field. Located in a northeastern suburb of Madison, WI, Sun Prairie has earned 12 individual-athlete state titles in track and field—the earliest dating all the way back to 1928. It was decided that they wanted a unique way to honor these athletes for years to come.

Team Fitz recently had the pleasure to design and build custom signage to showcase their well-established tradition. The Cardinals of Sun Prairie were looking for a single sign for each state championship win to display on the side of their outdoor concessions facility. They had seen our die-cut championship signs and were interested in this style because it could be custom cut into the shape of their home state, Wisconsin.

A custom shaped sign is a great way to add visual interest that you simply can’t achieve with a typical rectangular sign. While state shapes are popular, these signs can be cut into any shape and are a great way to display a state championship or runner up achievement. The content for each sign was straightforward and included: athlete name, year, event, and type boldly stating: “STATE CHAMPION”.

Like all our die-cut signs, Sun Prairie’s signs are intended for long-term outdoor use. Construction of the signs started with a sheet of composite aluminum that was router cut into the desired shape. Aluminum is an ideal material for outdoor signage. It’s a sturdy, all-weather substrate that doesn’t warp and twist like other materials can when exposed to extreme temperature shifts, wind, ice, and abuses from the sun.

Next, high-quality digitally-printed graphics are applied to the surface of the aluminum and topped with a protective laminate. This laminate application is an important final step. It not only helps to protect the print from surface scratches, it also includes a UV light-blocking filter to help prevent color fade over time.

Whether your school is steeped in athletic legacy, or you’re just starting to write your history, Team Fitz can help ensure you and your athletes are proud of where they play. Reach out today to speak with one of our reps.
